How PRP works

PRP — platelet-rich plasma — is a concentration of healing factors drawn from your own blood. Platelets play a central role in how the body naturally repairs tissue; PRP therapy takes a small sample of your blood, concentrates the platelets, and places that concentration directly into the injured or painful joint to support your body's own repair process. It's not a drug and it isn't surgery — it's your own biology, redirected.

1. Consultation

We start with a conversation, not a needle. We'll ask about your pain, what you've already tried, and your goals, then examine the joint. If PRP looks like a reasonable option, we'll talk through a plan — and if it isn't a good fit, we'll say so.

2. Blood draw

A trained clinician draws a small amount of blood from your arm — the same routine process as a standard lab test. Most patients describe it as a brief pinch, over in a few seconds.

3. PRP preparation

Your blood sample is placed in a centrifuge, which spins it to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This step usually takes 10–15 minutes, during which you're simply resting.

4. Injection

The concentrated PRP is injected directly into the affected joint. We use a fine needle and, where helpful, imaging guidance for accuracy. The injection itself is brief — most patients feel pressure or a brief sting rather than sharp pain.
